Modeling assistance at the conference may be obtained in two ways, either via pre-registration before the conference, or by signing up after arriving at the conference. By pre-registering, modelers are more assured of getting assistance, and that assistance will be by a coach who will have read modelers' questions beforehand, and who therefore will feel comfortable with the questions). Modelers signing up at the conference are less assured of getting coaching, as the logistics of linking up with a coach may get complicated, and coaches will be less prepared.
Signing up for Modeling Assistance before the Conference (pre-registration):
Two separate Modeling Assistance Workshops (MAW) will be held, one on Tuesday July 30th and the other on Wednesday July 31st, both from 1130 to 1300. Although the workshop is formally only 1.5 hours long, it is intentionally scheduled before the 1.5 hour open lunch period so that modelers and coaches may continue their discussions into the lunch period if they so desire.
Modelers should email one paragraph (or longer) summaries of their question(s) to paulnewton@StewardshipModeling.com. Models and papers are also welcome. Coaches will read these questions and supporting materials before the conference, and will sign up to assist specific modelers. Coaches' and modelers' conference registration packets will contain a list of workshop modeler-coach pairings.
Some modelers have questions that relate to papers the modelers are presenting papers at the conference, either in parallel or poster sessions. For papers presented prior to Tuesday at 1130, the modeler may be scheduled for either the Tuesday or Wednesday workshop. For papers presented after the start of the Tuesday workshop, but before the start of the Wednesday workshop, the modeler will be scheduled for the Wednesday workshop. Coaches are encouraged to attend their modeler's paper presentation to better understand the modeler's work before the workshop coaching session.
Signing up for Modeling Assistance at the Conference
A sign-up sheet will be available on the conference bulletin board, with the following instructions:
"This sign-up process is for modelers and coaches who have not pre-registered for the Modeling Assistance Workshops. Modelers and coaches are responsible for contacting one other to arrange meeting time and place.
MODELERS
1. On a single sheet of paper, provide a title and a short paragraph describing your topic, and drop it in the folder below.
2. Locate an available Modeler slot on the sign-up sheet -- if possible, next to the name of a coach.
3. Enter your name and contact information -- hotel name & room number, or other way to find you -- and your topic title.
4. If you have signed next to the name of a coach, contact that person to arrange meeting time and place.
COACHES
1. Review the sign-up sheet to find modelers who still need coaches, and their written descriptions in the folder below.
2. On the sign-up sheet, enter your name next to that of a modeler you would like to coach, or otherwise in any available Coach slot.
3. Enter your name and contact information -- hotel name & room number, or other way to find you.
4. If you have signed next to the name of a modeler, you may keep that written description -- please return all others to the folder.
5. If you have signed next to the name of a modeler, contact that person to arrange meeting time and place.
6. Initially, sign up for only one coaching session -- but please consider coaching more than once if a shortage of coaches develops."
