In 1998, Paul Newton conceived of the idea of businesses and K-12 students learning system dynamics together. He drafted a paper entitled "K-12 Students and Business People Learning Together by Solving Real Problems Using System Dynamics" [243 K download]. This paper was the genesis of the idea. A fortuitous coming together with some community sustainability activists in Northeast Wisconsin led to Paul's teaching a course closely modeled after the ideas in the above paper. This course is documented in a paper entitled "An account of a system dynamics course for high school students and teachers, and community sustainability activists" [135 K download]. Reflections on this experience, along with Paul's business background with marketing and management consulting while at IBM and previously in consulting engineering, led him to develop the business rationale for StewardshipModeling.com.
